About Dr. Fiona Weldon

Dr. Fiona Weldon is a Chartered Clinical, Counselling & Forensic Psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland. She is acknowledged as one of Ireland’s leading, most experienced psychologists with expertise in the field of adult mental health and forensics. She has over 20 years of specialist experience in assessment and evidence based treatment across all areas of adult mental health and in forensic services. She trained in University College Dublin (BA Hons Psychology), Cardiff University (Dip. Psych) and Trinity College Dublin, and her professional qualifications include a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (TCD, 2004), and a Masters in Counselling Psychology  (TCD, 2001). Her Doctoral thesis was carried out in the Irish Prison Service in the area of emotional intelligence and moral reasoning. She is also a currently serving member of CORU, the psychologists’ registration board.

Experience 

Dr. Weldon is skilled and highly experienced in multimodal forms of therapy including the delivery of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Integrative Psychotherapy, and Gestalt Therapy.

She was a Senior Psychologist in the National Forensic Psychiatric Service (Central Mental Hospital), Dundrum, for 6 years before becoming the CEO and Clinical Director of a private addiction treatment centre, where she worked for 6 years.

Dr. Weldon is now the CEO and Director of Leeward Clinical, a psychological healthcare company that offers specialist clinical and forensic psychological service streams as well as online mental health training programmes for the public, professionals and international corporate businesses.

One of the best known psychologists in Ireland, Dr. Weldon has a significant media profile and her commentary has been sought in numerous Television Current Affairs ( Frontline, Primetime, TG4), and National Radio ( e.g RTE Radio, Newstalk, Drivetime) productions. Her commentary on mental health and forensic issues has also been frequently featured in national print media.

Dr. Weldon is a currently serving board member of the Psychologists Registration Board in CORU, having been appointed by Minister Simon Harris (previous Minister for Health). She has also provided consultancy to the Department of Health and Minister Catherine Byrne regarding the review and development of the National Drugs Strategy.
